The Nullarbor

Quick update: Sorry if updates are a little sparse in these regions, internet access is hard to find and even harder to afford (hand in hand with the $1.71 unleaded and $1.73 diesel.) The new crew have settled in just fine and learnt the daily schedule without a hitch, they are loving the trip and the different phases of the day. Having a friendly, mature, well adjusted team makes life so much more relaxed, therefore running is going better than well. It's fun again.
As far as injuries go, it's just my back that's the worst for pain probably from all the vertical compression, closely followed  by the aching arches in my feet.
Headwind howls strongly at me accross the plains, making the progress slow (adds on about another 10minutes every 25km)and there have een plenty of rain showers. I read on an information baord back at Caiguna Blowhole that the region only gets 250mm so by the feel of it we shouldn't get much more next week! On the bright side, every day is closer to home, and heading east at last is a real moral booster.
We are nearing Border Village of WA and SA averaging 65k per day. I'm still keeping the running broken up into 2 main runs per day, but with more breaks around the 20km marks for a food and drink break. The scenery has been pretty much the same on both sides for the last 3 days, flat plains on the right with Moodini Bluff on the left (it's a long bluff). At least with this variation I can't go out for my morning run and accidently head off in the wrong direction! (I did do that one morning in the NT, I took off form a roadside camp in the dark and ran 20km in the wrong direction before wondering why the sun was rising right infront of me!)

These days many travelers on the road have been talking to me about Shane Crawford and his run from Adelaide to Melbourne. We haven't been traveling with a TV or tuning into the radio, so I've just used this rare bit of internet connection to look it up and see how he did and what a top effort. That leg for me is coming up soon, Adelaide to Melbourne.

The question on everyone seems to be asking me these days is... what's next... well, I'm just looking forward to being able to sleep in from time to time, look after my children all day without having to head out for runs, settle back into real life and generally RELAX... I won't know myself I'm sure!
